Consulting with a hospitality group in London 2005 and kept hearing the phrase “we are just interested in the FIT … do they have the FIT?”. This seemed to be the mantra for this organisation … ( correction ) it was an addiction from the top down to search and celebrate anything that worked towards or supported the “fit”. I was educated by M the charismatic HR Manager of the London hotels as to what the fit was and how it worked. M spoke passionately about what the fit is and the story behind its creation as to how this impacted and defined the culture.
THERE IS ALWAYS A GOOD STORY BEHIND GOOD STUFF
Hotel groups have a global culture and each hotel has a sub culture dependant not he location and leader running the show. Hotels are similar to any other business where values become different due to location and leaders. In the UK you can observe this with football clubs. Each club has a history and culture where there are invisible norms of how two behave and what to say and not say. Many managers of large clubs have either got sacked or had a short term nightmare due to getting the norms wrong … ie not having the right fit.
