5 WORDS TO BAN FROM YOUR VALUES STATEMENT

 

In a recent article in  The Harvard Business Review  by Denise Lee Yohn (February o5, 2018) she suggested that there are some common cliché words she refuses to use.

Most companies have nice list of words (values) that they promote to employees and sometimes to the public telegraphing how they behave. A small minority of organisations give a significant level of importance to these words there meanings and how to implement them in a day to day minute to minute style.

Cultures used to have mottos

 

Denise names the words as :

  1. Ethical 
  2. Teamwork
  3. Authentic
  4. Fun
  5. Customer Orientated

Are your values table stakes ?

 

Denise has a point here as the banned words mentioned should be givens in todays world of business. Any organisation that lacks the banned words would not be a great place to work.

Your values should fit with your category and sector. For example supermarkets should have  fresh food, filling stations should be safe, fast food chains should process customers in a fashion other than slow.
